AML & SAR Automation Hub

Find suspicious activity, investigate it, and prepare the SAR, in one place

Overview

The AML & SAR Automation Hub monitors transactions for structuring, layering and other suspicious patterns, and turns alerts into cases your investigators can work. It drafts the FinCEN Suspicious Activity Report from the case, so your BSA officer reviews, approves and files it. Every alert, decision and report keeps its reasoning and evidence, ready for internal audit and examiners.

The problem it solves

Most BSA/AML teams work across a monitoring system that produces alerts without context, spreadsheets that track cases, and a separate process for writing and filing SARs. Analysts spend their time gathering transactions and customer files rather than judging them, false positives crowd out the cases that matter, and filing deadlines are tracked by hand. When examiners ask why an alert was closed or how a threshold was set, the answer is spread across emails, notes and memory.

Who it’s for

  • BSA/AML officers and investigators at banks and credit unions
  • AML analysts who triage alerts day to day
  • Compliance leadership who answer for the program
  • Model risk and analytics teams who tune detection scenarios
  • Internal audit and examiners, who need evidence of every decision

How the work flows

  1. MonitorTransactions from your core and payment systems are scored against detection scenarios and models for structuring, layering, rapid movement of funds and activity that is unusual for the customer's profile.
  2. TriageAlerts are grouped by customer in a single queue, each showing why it fired and the related activity, so analysts close obvious false positives quickly and escalate the rest.
  3. InvestigateA case brings together the transaction timeline, counterparties, earlier alerts and cases, customer due-diligence data, notes and attachments. The decision to close or escalate is recorded with its rationale.
  4. ReportFor escalated cases the Hub drafts the SAR from the case data, with a narrative structure for the investigator to complete. A second person approves it, and the Hub tracks the filing deadline and continuing-activity reviews.

What it does

Explainable alerts
Every alert shows the scenario or model factors that produced it, in words an examiner can follow.
Threshold testing
Test a change to a scenario or threshold against historical data before it goes live, and keep the result as tuning evidence.
Case management
Assignment, due dates, notes, attachments and a four-eyes approval step before any SAR leaves the team.
SAR drafting
Subject, activity, amounts and dates pre-filled from the case, with a narrative template that follows FinCEN's guidance on what a narrative should cover.
Deadlines and continuing activity
Filing deadlines counted from the date of detection, and reminders for continuing-activity reviews on filed cases.
Exam-ready audit trail
Who did what, when and why, for every alert, case and report, exportable for internal audit and examiners.
Customer risk view
Each customer's risk rating, due-diligence data, beneficial owners and alert and case history on one screen.
Scenario library
Detection scenarios for structuring, rapid movement of funds, layering through related accounts, dormant-account activity and profile deviation, each documented with its logic and thresholds.
Alert quality review
Sample closed alerts for second review, record the outcome, and see where analysts disagree.
Section 314 matching
Search customers and transactions against 314(a) request lists and record the result of each search.
Workload management
Queues by team, assignment rules and views of open work by age, so managers can balance the load.
Document management
Supporting documents, research and correspondence stored with the case and retained under your retention schedule.

Who uses it

AML analyst
Works alerts in the queue, closes or escalates them with a reason, and adds notes
Investigator
Works cases, gathers evidence, drafts SARs and recommends filing decisions
BSA officer
Approves filing decisions and SARs, manages scenarios and thresholds, and sees the whole program
Quality reviewer
Reviews samples of closed alerts and cases and records findings
Model and analytics staff
Runs threshold tests and documents tuning, without access to approve SARs
Auditor or examiner (read-only)
Views alerts, cases, reports and the audit trail, with no ability to change them

Integrations

Core banking and payments
Transactions, accounts and customers by scheduled file transfer or API, mapped during implementation.
Customer due diligence
Customer risk ratings and KYC/CIP data from your onboarding system, including Moraph's Digital Member Onboarding.
Sanctions screening
Results from the screening system you already use can be attached to cases.
Wire and ACH systems
Payment details such as originators, beneficiaries and counterparties, so cases show who sent money to whom.
BSA E-Filing
Approved SARs are exported in the batch format accepted by FinCEN's BSA E-Filing System for your team to submit.
Single sign-on
Staff sign in through your identity provider (SAML or OpenID Connect).
Work API
Case and alert data available to your data warehouse and reporting tools through the Moraph Work API.
Model risk management
Scenario and model documentation shared with Moraph's Model Risk Management (MRM) Validator or your own model inventory.

Security

Single sign-on
Staff sign in through your identity provider, so your password and multi-factor policies apply.
Role-based access
What each person can see and do follows their role; approving a SAR is separate from drafting one.
Restricted SAR information
Access to SARs and the fact that one was filed is limited to the roles you choose, supporting SAR confidentiality.
Encryption and keys
Client data is encrypted, with keys Moraph staff cannot use without explicit, time-bound authorization.
Complete audit trail
Every view, change, decision and export is logged with the person and time, and cannot be edited.
Data residency
Data stays in the hosting region you choose: the United States, the United Kingdom or Australia.

Hosting and deployment

Moraph cloud
Hosted and operated by Moraph in the United States region. United Kingdom and Australia regions are available for institutions outside the US.
Dedicated environment
A single-tenant environment for institutions whose policies require isolation, scoped in the proposal.
With a managed service
Optionally run alongside a Moraph managed service for scenario tuning support and platform administration.

Implementation

Data mapping
We map your core, payment and customer data to the Hub's model and agree the file or API schedule. We need data extracts and a contact from your core-system team.
Scenario configuration
Detection scenarios and thresholds are set for your products, customer base and risk assessment, and documented for your model risk process.
Historical testing
Scenarios are run against historical data and the results reviewed with your BSA officer before any threshold is approved.
Workflow and roles
Queues, assignment rules, reason codes, approval steps and roles are configured to match your procedures.
Parallel run
Where you are replacing a monitoring system, both run side by side for a period you choose, and differences in alerts are reviewed.
Training and go-live
Analysts, investigators and approvers are trained on their own workflows, and open cases are migrated or finished in the old system by agreement.

What it doesn’t do

  • The Hub does not file reports itself. A person at your institution reviews, approves and submits each SAR through BSA E-Filing.
  • Detection depends on the completeness and quality of the transaction and customer data you provide. Scenarios and thresholds are tuned to your data during implementation and should be reviewed periodically.
  • It is not a sanctions screening engine. It uses results from the screening system you already have.
  • It is designed for US Bank Secrecy Act requirements and FinCEN reporting. Suspicious-activity reporting in other countries is not included.
  • It does not file Currency Transaction Reports or other BSA reports besides SARs.
  • It does not perform customer onboarding or identity verification; it uses the due-diligence data your onboarding process produces.
  • Scenario thresholds and model changes are your institution's decisions; the Hub records and tests them but does not approve them.
  • Real-time blocking of payments is not included; monitoring works on transactions after they are recorded.

How to evaluate it

  • Load a sample of your own anonymized transactions and compare the alerts with those from your current system
  • Ask an analyst to work an alert from queue to closure and time how many systems they still need
  • Check that each alert's explanation would satisfy your examiners
  • Walk through a SAR from case to approved draft and review the narrative structure
  • Test a threshold change and review the evidence it produces
  • Confirm role separation: who can draft, approve and export a SAR

Questions

Who owns the data in the Hub?

Your institution does. How it is returned to you and deleted at the end of the agreement is set out in the contract.

Can we use our own detection scenarios?

Yes. The scenario library is a starting point; scenarios and thresholds are configured for your products and risk assessment, and you can add your own logic during implementation.

Does the Hub replace our sanctions screening?

No. It works alongside your screening system and attaches its results to cases.

How is it priced?

As a subscription, usually measured by the size of the institution or the volume of activity monitored, with implementation charged separately. See Working with Moraph for what drives a quotation.

How do examiners see our work?

A read-only examiner role shows alerts, cases, reports, scenario documentation and the audit trail, and everything can be exported.

Is there an accessibility conformance report?

Ask for one through the procurement request form at /how-to-buy/request, naming the version you are evaluating.
